Eastern Market

Being so close to D.C. I try to go into the city whenever I get a chance but unfortunately sometimes outdoor activities are ruined by the cold February weather… I definitely got lucky, the day I was planning on finally going to explore the District’s Eastern Market, it couldn’t have been a prettier day. It was in the 50s, sunny, a little [too] windy but non the less a great day!

Braving the Storm

This winter has been such a whirl-wind. There have been 55 degree days followed by a morning of snow. Seriously determining how to dress has been a job in itself! I checked the weather and it said mid 40’s and possible rain so as I was leaving to run some errands I grabbed my flats, jeans, rain coat, scarf and clutch… well that rain was actually snow and that 40 degrees was 20 degrees warmer than what it felt like outside! Gosh I was freezing! But I love this jacket and it turned my super super simple outfit a little more fun!

P.S. For lent I have decided to give up two of my biggest loves in life… pizza and shopping. Lets see if I can do it!

Pop Tarts

As a kid growing up in a house of five kids it was every man for themselves when it came to getting the “good” food… and one of the items that would disappear from the pantry the quickest was always pop tarts. Blueberry, Strawberry, S’more, it didn’t matter the flavor; the sweet breakfast treats were a treasure. Over the weekend I decided I wanted to try to make my own version of the quick tart. I had some leftover pie crust in the fridge, nutella in the cabinet and I had recently purchased strawberries so I had the brilliant idea to put them together and let me tell you… it was a little piece of heaven in my mouth when I bit into it. Just like the store bought pop tarts they tasted good hot or cold but if you want a real mouth full of joy, bake these and after letting them cool for just a little bit, grab a glass of milk and eat them while the nutella is still seaping out.

Ingredients you’ll need… pie crust, strawberries, nutella, melted butter, sugar. I decided to go with a circle shape but any cookie cutter will do the trick as long as there’s enough room for nutella and a strawberry in the middle. I used a scalloped press for the edges but a fork will do the trick of sealing the pocket. Brush on some melted butter and adorn with sugar. Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes or until the pie crust is no longer doughy.

My Little Sister

Having a younger sister is beyond fun. I get to go shopping with her, make her take pictures of my outfits, and anxiously sit in the passenger seat as she’s learning to drive. I have been so truely blessed to have a very close knit family and I can think of a million excuses to bring them up in conversation and brag… so here it goes… McKenzie is SUCH a 16 year old. She’s struggling to find that happy medium of still wanting to hang out with family but spending as much time as possible with her friends. She is incredibly intelligent, {almost} always smiling, super funny and so down to earth. McKenzie has a very laid back style… jeans, sweaters, boots, and uggs seem to be her winter staples and she does a great job of pairing some cute items together!
