I’m a fan of the maxi. It might possibly be the easiest thing to throw on for any summertime occasion. Dinners, parties, errands, exploring the town… a maxi dress has you covered! And the best part about a maxi dress- no need to make sure legs are perfectly tan and shaven, no one will even know!
I wore this maxi out to dinner at a little hole in the wall Mexican place. You know the kind where the walls are covered in cactus murals and pinatas hang from the ceiling. (My favorite kind of Mexican restaurant!!) I almost felt like I blended in with the decor since the colors in this dress were just about matching the colors all over. I wasn’t mad about it one bit!
P.S. Big changes are going to be happening around here! I’m redoing/moving my site!! More details to come soon! Hope you all follow along! xo
I love prints. My closet is filled with mostly prints so putting together an outfit of solids isn’t as easy as one would think. But, as much as I love prints, this outfit reminded me of how much I love simple, staple, solid pieces. This skirt is a long pencil skirt from J.Crew which has become a regular in my 9-5 rotation. And this racerback silk cami, another J.Crew buy, I can’t seem to get enough of. I have a million outfits spinning through my mind where I can wear it… to a picnic, on a date night, or just running errands. (And I love it so much that I bought it in a print!) And lastly my shoes… my new shoes that I have to give the boy credit for since he told me to go with these beauties… which were 50% off. So yeah, he gives pretty good advice… I’ll keep him around ;)!

So summer is here. And it’s been here in the DC metro area. Holy humidity! And if you want to talk about some crucial thunderstorms…! A couple weeks back I was getting ready for Yoga and it started raining then thundering, and Boom! The fire alarm went off for what seemed like hours as we sat at the bottom of our stairwell so we wouldn’t be outside in the storm. Those rain storms aren’t helping the humidity and dressing for work is getting harder and harder. What do you wear all day in a very chilly office that’s cool enough to transition to an outdoor happy hour? Well, like every season, my chambray is my go-to. Thank goodness it hasn’t fallen off trend yet!
So by now I have fully admitted to myself that I love crop tops. I don’t have a ton, but 4 for a mid-twenty year old is definitely enough. (Jealous of high schoolers hitting the 15-20 crop tops in their closet mark. So many cute ones out there!!)
I usually shy away from boxy tops like this one, but when I saw it, I couldn’t resist. I’m not sure if it was the texture, the embroidered shoulders, high boat neck, or what but I knew I had to have it. And the best part, I got it on sale from Ideeli.com. Have you all checked out Ideeli? Great sales and brands… along with the daily blog roll, I check those “boutique” sites to see what gems I can find! (RueLaLa, Hautelook, Ideeli and Gilt are my go-tos to check!)
I know that it’s not really the start of summer, but Memorial Day weekend to me has always been the kick off! Bring on the beach, weddings, bbqs, road trips and this summer is super bittersweet because my sister is going off to college and my parents are moving. I have high hopes for this summer (like I do every year) and I think this weekend spent at Deep Creek will be the perfect way to kick it off!
At the beginning of the summer I always make a to-do list. Here’s a few things I’ve come up with so far…
1. Go to Jazz in the Garden. (I’ve been up here for years and have never been!)
2. Ride up to the top of the Washington Monument
3. Go camping. Real camping.
4. Spend a weekend exploring somewhere new. I’m thinking wine country sounds nice… completed with a picnic!
5. Go to the National Zoo in DC
My list will continue as the “real” first day of summer comes closer but I think I’ve got a good list going so far! What are you planning on doing this summer?!
Lots of colors. Because I like colorful outfits. A lot.
Isn’t it funny how at the beginning of the warm season in DC, if it reaches 70 everyone dresses like it’s 90 out. Yup I’m guilty! And I’m also guilty of being somewhat jealous of the heat wave that struck through LA. (All you bloggers I follow, I’m talking about you!) When are we getting 80, 85, 90 degrees?
In the meantime I’m pretending that it’s 90 out in these bright colors. Bring on the neons, shorts and panama hats!
Just kidding! Eat as much of your Easter candy as you can without getting sick! I’m not judging!
I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter yesterday and a great weekend. I went home to my parents house had breakfast, opened my Easter basket and went to mass with my mom, younger sister and brother. With my older sister’s wedding in a week, and some unfortunate family news, Easter was different than past years, but one that made me appreciate family that much more. I did a lot of reflecting on my drive back to Arlington and I truly am so blessed. I have a big family & sometimes it’s hard not to get lost in the mix, but when something comes up you have such a support system- and regardless of how strong you are, you need that support system. Stop and take a minute not to ask for anything from Him, but simply say thank you for all that you have.
I have a busy week ahead and I’m so excited for all the wedding festivities so follow along!

Ten. Diez. Dix. Dez. Yup, ten. That is how much I paid for this sweater dress. I hardly ever go into Urban Outfitters, but the other weekend when I was walking around Georgetown with my sister we popped in and I walked out with this. How could I not?! $10 is less than a quick lunch at some places! Plus this blue… pale blue is a front-runner right now. Another front-runner in my life right now is doing (and buying) things that make me happy. I’ve realized some of the rocks thrown your way aren’t thrown to hurt you, they’re thrown to see how you handle and knock them down. They’re thrown to help you grow. And happiness, I’ve learned, is going to be a front-runner for a long time.
Whew what a weekend! It feels good to wake up on a Monday and have a big thing checked off your to-do list! We spent the weekend at Wintergreen Ski Resort celebrating my sister’s bachelorette party! The weekend was filled with lots of champagne, girl talk, breweries, vineyards and of course fun! I’ll definitely share some pictures of the décor! Lots of pink!
Speaking of pink… I always say it’s my favorite color, but in reality I might be totally wrong. I love blue. Bright, dark, light, bold… all shades of blue! I’ve been flooding my wardrobe for awhile now with the shades of blue but out of all of them, cobalt might be my fave! It’s a great color for any season and bright enough to feel cheery, not dreary!
